How It Works — The Breastmilk Company
The Process

From Your Freezer to a 3-Year Shelf Life

A complete, transparent walkthrough of how we collect, process, track, and return your breastmilk — safely and confidently.

Step by Step

The Complete Journey

Seven clearly-defined stages from the moment you place your order to the day your powder sachets arrive at your door.

01

Choose Your Package & Place Order

Browse our four packages on the Packages page and select the one that matches your milk volume. Complete the checkout & we will get in touch directly.

Our coordinator will reply within 24 hours to confirm your package selection, discuss your milk volume, and agree on a pickup window that works for your schedule.

⏱️ Response within 24 hours
02

Prepare Your Milk for Collection

You do not need to do anything special to your milk. It should remain frozen until our team arrives. Before pickup, do a visual check of your milk bags — ensure none are torn, damaged, leaking, or dirty.

Thawed milk should not be sent for freeze drying as the quality may already be compromised. Keep your milk frozen and set it aside ready for pickup.

03

Home Pickup in Insulated Transport

Our trained collection staff arrive at your home within the agreed pickup window. Your milk is immediately transferred into insulated containers — maintaining a temperature below −15°C throughout transport.

You will receive a collection receipt via WhatsApp confirming the total volume collected. Coverage: West Malaysia & Singapore.

📍 Home service — no travel needed
04

Batch ID Assignment & Check-In

The moment your milk arrives at our facility, it is assigned a unique Batch ID (e.g., TBC-2026-0812). This ID is physically labeled on every container of your milk, on all processing documentation, and on every sachet in your final delivery.

Your milk never shares processing space with another batch. You will receive a WhatsApp message confirming receipt with your Batch ID — which you can use to track your order on our Track Order page.

Pharmaceutical-Grade Freeze Drying

Your milk is placed in our pharmaceutical-grade freeze drying chamber. The process works in two phases:

Phase 1 — Primary Drying: The chamber temperature is lowered to approximately −50°C, causing the water in your milk to freeze into ice crystals. A vacuum is then applied, causing the ice to sublimate directly into vapour — no liquid phase, no heat applied.

Phase 2 — Secondary Drying: The temperature is gently raised to remove residual moisture, leaving a fine, stable powder with less than 2% moisture content. This prevents bacterial growth and ensures the 3-year shelf life.

❄️ No heat — nutrients fully preserved
06

Quality Check & Custom Sachet Filling

Before packaging, our QC team verifies that your powder meets our moisture and texture standards. The powder is then portioned and sealed into custom-sized resealable sachets — sized specifically to YOUR milk's yield. Each sachet is printed with:

  • The exact water amount to add for reconstitution
📋 QC verified before packaging
07

Delivery Back to Your Home

Your completed order is packed in an insulated delivery box and dispatched to your home address within 30–60 working days from the date of pickup (30–45 days for Supersaver priority processing). You will receive a WhatsApp notification when your order is dispatched.

Inside your delivery box: all labeled sachets, a reconstitution guide, and for Essential/Supersaver packs, your processing documentation.

Safety & Standards

Pharmaceutical-Grade Standards. Always.

Our commitment to safety, identity, and quality goes beyond what most mothers expect — because your milk deserves nothing less.

Dedicated Processing Facility

We operate a dedicated breastmilk processing facility — not shared with other food production. The entire space is designed specifically for this service, with pharmaceutical-grade cleanliness standards.

Trained Processing Staff

All staff handling your milk are trained in food-grade hygiene protocols, cold chain management, and our batch tracking systems. No untrained personnel handle any milk at any stage.

Cold Chain Maintained

From collection to freeze drying, your milk is maintained at below −15°C at all times. We use pharmaceutical-grade insulated containers and dry ice for transport. The cold chain is never broken.

Full Documentation

Every batch generates comprehensive processing documentation: collection date, batch ID assignment, processing run data, QC sign-off, and packaging verification.

Dedicated Batch Processing

Your milk is processed in its own dedicated freeze dry cycle. No other milk ever shares the chamber. Equipment is sterilised between every single batch. Cross-contamination is structurally impossible by design.

Pharmaceutical-Grade Equipment

We use the same category of freeze drying equipment used in pharmaceutical manufacturing — not food-grade or household equipment. This ensures consistent, precise temperature and pressure control throughout every batch.

The Science

Why Freeze Drying Preserves More

Compared to other preservation methods, lyophilisation is the gold standard for maintaining breastmilk's biological value. Featured on Melody FM.

vs. Freezing

Standard freezing maintains nutrients but has a shelf life of up to 6 months (recommended) before quality degrades. Freeze drying extends this to 3 years at room temperature — eliminating freezer dependency, power-outage risk, and lipase degradation over time.

3yr vs. 6-month shelf life

vs. Pasteurisation

Holder pasteurisation (used in donor milk banks) uses 62.5°C heat for 30 minutes, destroying up to 60–70% of IgA and most probiotics. Freeze drying uses zero heat — all immune factors remain active and bioavailable for your baby.

>95% IgA retained (vs. 30–40% after pasteurisation)

Nutrient Retention

Lyophilisation research consistently shows superior retention of secretory IgA, lactoferrin, lysozyme, human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), and probiotic viability — the key biological components that make breastmilk irreplaceable.

Heat used — zero thermal degradation
Reconstitution Guide

How to Prepare Your Powder

Simple, precise instructions — and your sachet label already shows the exact water amount to add.

1

Prepare Warm Water

Prepare the amount of warm water printed on your sachet label (40–45°C). Your sachet label shows the exact volume specific to your milk's concentration — no guesswork needed.

2

Add Powder & Dissolve

Open the sachet and pour the powder into the warm water. Gently swirl or stir until fully dissolved — do not shake vigorously or use boiling water. The powder dissolves quickly into a smooth liquid.

3

Feed Immediately

Test the temperature on your wrist and feed. Once reconstituted, treat as fresh breastmilk — consume within 2 hours at room temperature or within 24 hours if refrigerated. Do not refreeze after reconstitution.

💡 Pro tip: The water amount on each sachet is calculated specifically for YOUR milk. Follow your sachet label for the most accurate reconstitution.
